Head coach of the Black Stars, Milovan Rajevac has said he expects 18-year-old Felix Afena-Gyan to join Ghana's pre-AFCON camp in Qatar.

The AS Roma teen sensation was named in Rajevac's 30-man team for the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

During the announcement of the provisional list, the Serbian trainer stated the reason for selecting the young forward.

“Felix Afena-Gyan is on the list because he’s showing potential and he’s trying to establish himself in his club and we want to have him here, so we will see what is going to happen. We expect him to come," he said as quoted by myjoyonline.com.

Afena-Gyan rejected an earlier call up during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and South Africa.

The Roma attacker stated he wants to concentrate on his club career and it was too early for a national team appearance.

However, Rajevac decided to add him to his squad for the tournament which begins in January 2022 and ends in February.

The Black Stars will starting preparation in Qatar later this week, with a series of friendlies line up for the team. Ghana will play African champions Algeria in one of the friendlies.

Milovan Rajevac invites five local players for AFCON camping

Earlier, SportsBrief.com reported that, head coach of the Black Stars, Milovan Rajevac has included five Ghana-based players in his 30-man provisional squad for AFCON 2021.

Regular invitees Richard Attah, Philemon Baffuor and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku have been joined by David Abagna and Maxwell Abbey Quaye.

The Serbian trainer named his squad at a short press conference in Accra on Tuesday ahead of the team's pre-AFCON camping in Qatar.
