Former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder, Alex Song, has alleged that players pay to get selected into the Cameroonian national football team.

This comes in the wake of former teammate and now president of FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto'o, who was accused of bribery and corruption as head of the Cameroonian football federation.

Eto'o was declared innocent of all accusations by the Confederation of African Football despite fining him over his involvement in a betting sponsorship deal.

Song, who played for the Indomitable Lions between 2008 to 2014, confessed that he witnessed players paying to get selected into the Cameroonian national team.

"I witnessed certain scenes. It's true. I saw during the CAN, when we finished playing the match, we went to collect their bonuses in their rooms. They are given half of it, I don't know what. There are people who came to collect that. I saw," he told Afrik Foot, as quoted by 13 Football.
“At one point when I was alone, I went to stay in the person’s room. And the person was begging me not to go out. It was someone who wasn’t part of the staff (who came to collect the bonus). It’s something we had already set up. It was someone from outside who came to collect… The player wasn’t even playing," he added.
“It’s a choice. They tell you left or right and you choose. But the one who started has paid, and will pay all his life, unfortunately."

Song enjoyed an illustrious career, playing for several top clubs in Europe including Arsenal and Barcelona, per Transfermarkt.

Song retires from football at 36

The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder hung up his boots at the age of 36 following a career that spanned almost two decades.
