Kaizer Chiefs are said to be on alert as Grant Kekana is reportedly yet to agree on contract extension with Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Bafana Bafana defender is said to be locked in discussions with Masandawana in a bid to extend his current deal.

Kekana's contract with the club expires in 2026, but he is said to be making efforts get an improved agreement with the champions.

Reports have it that there has been no progress in the negotiations, with the possibility of joining another club very much on the table.

A source told Power FM, via GOAL:

"This guy [Flemming Berg] brought in South Americans who are earning a million a month, and the players you are talking about like Grant are contributing every week, but they cannot even make half what guys like Marcelo Allende and Matias Esquivel are making.
"The guys feel it is unfair. And Kekana was not asking for a lot. He said, I have done well here, proved myself, played for Bafana, I am the defender of the season, show that you appreciate, but the Sporting Director is not bothered.

The source claimed that switching to Kaizer Chiefs was certainly an option for the defender.

Having established himself as one of the key players at Sundowns, Kekana's quest for an improved contract seems justified.

He has also been rocked solid at the international level as he is now the first-choice centre-back for Bafana Bafana.

Should he part ways with Masandawana, Kekana would be the second key defender to leave the club after Brian Onyago recently.

Mokwena bids farewell to Sundowns

Sports Brief also reported on Rulani Mokwena's emotional farewell to Sundowns after leaving the club by mutual consent.

The South African giants released a statement on Wednesday, July 3, confirming the 37-year-old had been relieved of his duties.

Mokwena shared a touching farewell message to his former employers, players, and fans in a letter that followed his departure.
