Cristiano Ronaldo, who missed a penalty in extra time, tearfully converted his second attempt before Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva capitalised on a goalkeeping masterclass from Diogo Costa.

Bernardo Silva calls Bruno Fernandes, 'Penandes'

Fernandes, a penalty specialist who has missed only six of 60 career spot-kicks, was expected to score from 12 yards. The 29-year-old calmly stroked the ball past Jan Oblak, giving his side a two-goal advantage.

On Instagram, Silva posted a picture with Fernandes, captioning it via City Xtra:

"With my friend and penalty professor Bruno Penandes."

Since joining the Premier League in 2020, Fernandes has been dubbed 'Penandes' by fans who believe his scoring record heavily relies on penalties.

In his first season at Old Trafford, he netted eight penalties in 22 appearances.

Reacting to Silva's message, Fernandes playfully responded:

"You are welcome Benandes."

Fernandes hails Ronaldo

Meanwhile, Fernandes has outlined the importance of Ronaldo in Portugal’s team at Euro 2024 after they secured their first win of the competition against Czechia.

The Manchester United midfielder disclosed that the 39-year-old forward’s experience outweighed the need for him to be scoring goals, as they push for another major title.

It is unclear what the future holds for Ronaldo and the Portugal national team after Euro 2024, but the Al-Nassr star had previously voiced his desire to keep playing until the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Bruno Fernandes dragged out of interview

In other news, Sports Brief also reported on ten Hag cutting short Bruno's interview shortly after Manchester United's win over Newcastle.

The Portuguese midfielder returned from injury during the Wednesday night, May 15, Premier League clash.
