Only seven matches of the expected 51 of Euro 2024 remain as tension and excitement grows every day. Mert Gunok made an incredible last-gasp save to confirm Turkey's place in the last eight.

The drama will hit fever pitch when Spain take on host nation, Germany, on July 5, knowing that the winner will face whoever survives the France versus Portugal duel in the semi-finals.

Euro 2024 prize money

The Euro Championships is one of the best-paying sports events in the world. UEFA confirmed last year that the winner could receive as much as €28.25 million.

The tournament boasts A-class players who dominate the list of the best-paid football players. Sports Brief takes a look at the best-paid player from every squad of the eight remaining in Germany.

Best-paid players remaining at Euro 2024

1. Germany - Toni Kroos - €21.94 million

It was debatable to include the influential midfielder in the list, given that he would be retiring after Euro 2024. But heading into the competition, his annual salary at Real Madrid eclipsed what every other player in Julian Nagelsmann's squad earns.

2. Spain - Aymeric Laporte - €24.5 million

The former Manchester City midfielder was one of the players who cashed in on Middle East interest last summer. His move to Al-Nassr made him the second-best-paid defender in the world, according to Front Office Sports.

3. France- Kylian Mbappe - €15 million

Mbappe might have taken a massive pay cut to make his dream move to Santiago Bernabeu happen, but he will still be one of the best-paid players in the world.

4. Portugal - Cristiano Ronaldo - €200 million

The best-paid player in the world.

Forbes puts Ronaldo as the best-paid athlete in the world, with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner bagging the insane contract with Al-Nassr despite his advanced age.

5. England - Harry Kane - €25 million

Harry Kane became the best-paid player in the Bundesliga when he moved from Tottenham Hotspur last year. The Three Lions skipper will be hoping to win his first trophy on July 14.

6. Switzerland - Xherdan Shaqiri - €6.5 million

The widely travelled forward is currently in the books of the Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer. The 32-year-old has been rarely used by Murat Yakin in Germany but scored a beautiful goal against Scotland.

7. Netherlands - Virgil Van Dijk - €12 million

The towering centre-back earns a weekly salary of around £220,000, making him one of the best-paid players in England.

8. Hakan Çalhanoğlu - Turkiye - €11.1 million

The Turkiye captain must have been beyond relieved that his side did the work against Austria in his absence. Inter Milan made the 30-year-old their second-best player behind Nicolo Barella when they poached him from their city rivals, AC Milan.

Goalkeepers with most saves at Euro 2024

Sports Brief has also previously reported on the goalkeepers with the most saves at Euro 2024 as the quarter-finals near.

Giorgi Mamardashvili made twice as many saves as any other goalkeeper in Georgia's run to the Round of 16 on their debut.

France's Mike Maignan leads the race for the Golden Glove with three clean sheets so far, although the race is still open.
