Orlando Pirates legend Jomo Sono stated that Kaizer Chiefs missed a golden opportunity by failing to appoint Pitso Mosimane as their head coach.

Amakhosi have been in search of a permanent manager since Molefi Ntseki was fired last year, with Cavin Johnson temporarily taking over.

Chiefs finished the 2023/2024 season on a poor note, crashing out of the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup and ending the DStv Premiership in 10th position.

Although they are yet to make an official announcement about the new head coach, multiple reports have it that Chiefs have settled to appoint Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Several tacticians, including Pitso, were linked with the Naturena job, but it seems the club owners prefer Nabi, who is billed to arrive in the coming days.

Sono believes Mosimane and Chiefs would work well

However, Jomo Sono, who was in charge of Bafana Bafana at various times, believed Pitso was the best candidate for the Kaizer Chiefs' job.

He told Robert Marawa via Hollywoodbets:

“It would have been a very good marriage because Pitso has one advantage – he is a hard worker, even when he was a player, he used to stay behind with me, and we would work with set-pieces.
“Whatever he has earned as a coach is because he is a hard worker. He has coached at the highest level, and I think he should have been given a chance and it would have been a very good marriage.
“But we don’t know what happens behind closed doors. Maybe the dollars were too high or too low."

Chiefs fans clamour for Johnson's exit

Sports Brief earlier reported that as Kaizer Chiefs fans clamour for Cavin Johnson's complete exit from the club, the team's board has finally made a decision.

After leading Amakhosi to a 10th-place finish in the just-concluded season, Johnson’s name is far from the fans' favourite.

The 65-year-old was in charge of the club during their dismal second half of the season, which many have branded a disaster.
