Mason Greenwood was dealt a blow in his potential move to French giants Marseille after it emerged that a large section of fans of the Ligue 1 club do not fancy him.

Manchester United are reportedly keen on agreeing a permanent exit for Greenwood before pre-season starts, with a number of potential suitors on the cards.

Teams like Lazio, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Atletico Madrid have all been linked with the striker, who reportedly fancies a move to Marseille instead.

The Athletic reported earlier this week that the French club are open to signing the embattled forward, who spent last season on loan with Getafe.

New Marseille boss, Roberto de Zerbi, is open to acquiring the forward’s services, but Manchester United’s £40 million valuation of Greenwood could be a huge stumbling block in a potential deal.

Marseille fans ‘reject’ Greenwood

On Saturday, June 29, 2024, Greenwood’s potential move to Marseille suffered a fresh blow, as French outlet L’Équipe reports fans are apprehensive about the player’s controversial past.

The United forward has not played for his parent club since January 2022 as he battled damaging assault allegations. After intense investigations, United dropped, and Greenwood was shipped out to Getafe on loan for the 2023/2024 season.

Further reports from France claim sections of Marseille fans have launched an online protest against Greenwood.

If United are unable to find a buyer for Greenwood, there is a slim chance he will return to the squad ahead of pre-season, according to ESPN.

Chelsea want to sign Murillo

Sports Brief also reported Chelsea’s links to Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo.

Fabrizio Romano reported Thursday (June 27) that the Blues had contacted Forest about Murillo amid competition from other European clubs.

The Brazilian moved to the Premier League from FC Corinthians in his home country, performing well under Steve Cooper and new Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
