Fans have been left startled after realising an underdog could make Euro history and reach the semi-final of the tournament.

Eight of the teams that were taking part in the continental showpiece have already been sent packing after the group stages.

As such, 16 of the 24 participating teams have sealed a spot in the knockout phase of the tournament.

Europe's top guns, including France, England, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Italy, the tournament's holders, are still firmly in it.

However, there are also several underdogs who could cause an upset in the subsequent rounds.

The underdogs include Georgia, Slovakia, Romania, Slovenia and Austria.

According to 90Min, this will be Romania's first appearance in the tournament's knockout stages in 24 years.

Of these countries, only Turkey have gone the farthest in the past by reaching the semis.

Romania are scheduled to come up against the Netherlands, with Austria coming up against Turkey.

The Turkey and Austria tie presents an underdog a grand chance to progress further, with the winner between them set to face

"One of Romania, Hungary, Austria, Turkey/Czechia/Georgia will be in the semi-finals."

@rootboost10 reckoned:

"Austria most likely."

@goru_hamba added:

"Only Austria deserves it. Hats off to Ragnick. I wasn’t familiar with his game."
