Senegal midfielder, Lamine Camara, has disclosed that he was hugely affected by the Teranga Lions' early Africa Cup of Nations exit in Ivory Coast in January this year.

The 2021 African champions failed to defend their title after suffering a Round of 16 exit following a defeat to the host on penalties.

Camara, one of the stars of the competition broke down in uncontrollable tears after the game, as a distraught Senegal team walked off the pitch.

The defeat affected the youngster, who struggled following his return to French club FC Metz as they suffered relegation to Ligue 2.

Camara credits AFCON exit for dip in form

According to Camara, in an interview with 13 Football, he has not been the same since but hopes to find his best form before the start of next season.

"After the AFCON, my level dropped," he confessed.

Meanwhile, the 20-year-old is attracting interest from several clubs in Europe, with AS Monaco and Stade Rennais leading the race.

The AFCON U20 winner scored Senegal's first goal at the Nations Cup in Ivory Coast this year.

His sensational strike for Metz against Monaco was voted Goal of the Season in France, as reported by beIN Sports.

Lamine Camara inconsolable after Senegal defeat

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Senegal midfielder, Lamine Camara had to be carried into the dressing room following the defeat to Cote d'Ivoire in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The FC Metz youngster, who had a good tournament, started for the Teranga Lions before he was replaced in the 87th minute as the AFCON host forced the game into extra time.

Habib Diallo opened the scoring for Senegal after finishing off a Sadio Mane assist, but second-half substitute Franck Kessie scored late to level for Cote d'Ivoire.
