Lineker, who represented England 80 times, was critical of England's performances and highlighted Kane's display against Denmark.
“In all honestly, I think Harry Kane needs to do a lot better. I think his movement was minimal, he didn’t look to go in behind but even when he did look to come in short, he’s just drifted short very lethargically, plodding short. And that’s not going to help," via Football 365.

Kane responds to Lineker
Speaking to the media on Sunday, June 23, Kane said criticism from Lineker was uncalled for.
"Building the lads up with confidence would have been a better way to go about it," Kane said via ESPN. What ex-players have to realise is that it is very hard not to listen to it now, especially for some players who are not used to it or who are new to the environment.”

FootballThe Bayern Munich striker reminded Lineker and other former England players that they were also part of England teams that never won a major trophy.
"The bottom line is we haven't won [any tournaments] as a nation for a long, long time and a lot of these [ex-players who are criticising] were a part of that [failure] as well, so they know how tough it is."
Southgate's team are considered favourites but they are yet to produce a statement result after two matches.
