Orlando Pirates star, Patrick Maswanganyi, won three plaques at the Premier Soccer League awards, earning him considerable prize money on the night.

The South African midfielder had a blistering debut with the Buccaneers. He led them to second place in the DStv Premiership and won the Nedbank Cup and the MTN8.

The 26-year-old scored 10 goals and registered 12 assists in 40 appearances in all competitions in the 2023/24 campaign.

According to a report by iDiskiTimes, Maswanganyi won the most awards at the 2024 PSL, which was held virtually on Sunday, June 23.

The Pirates star was named the DStv Premiership Player’s Player of the Season but lost the PSL Player of the Season to Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams.

He was also named DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season and Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament.

Maswanganyi's teammate at Orlando Pirates, Relebohile Mofokeng, also won multiple awards at the event, winning both the PSL Young Player of the Season and the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament.

Total money Maswanganyi made at PSL awards

For the DStv Premiership Player’s Player of the Season, Maswanganyi earned prize money of R200,000, while for the Midfielder of the Season and Nedbank Cup Best Player bagged R50,000 and R150,000, respectively.

The Pirates midfielder bagged a total amount of R400,000 with the three awards won at the event.

Khumalo hails Patrick Maswanganyi

Sports Brief earlier reported on Kaizer Chiefs legend, Doctor Khumalo, labelling Maswanganyi as one of the greatest footballers South Africa has ever produced.

The Amakhosi legend hailed Orlando Pirates for giving Maswanganyi the opportunity to showcase his footballing talent at the club.

The South African midfielder had a campaign with the Soweto-based club and was one of their best players in the PSL and cup tournaments.
