South African midfielder, Bongani Zungu, has been told not to join Kaizer Chiefs this summer after surprisingly leaving PSL giants Mamelodi Sundowns.

The former Rangers star returned to Mamelodi Sundowns in 2022 after spending six years in Europe.

The 31-year-old was part of the Brazilians' squad that won the DStv Premiership and the African Football League under Rulani Mokwena.

In an interview with KickOff, as per the South African, former Mamelodi Sundowns star Sello Mhlangu has urged the former Vitoria Guimaraes midfielder to return to Europe, as it would help Bafana Bafana.

"Zungu's next move after Mamelodi Sundowns should be going back to Europe. Him moving to Europe will also benefit the South African national team," he said.

Despite being linked with Kaizer Chiefs, the former Mamelodi Sundowns star advised the South African midfielder not to join the Glamour Boys due to the financial implications for the Soweto giants and also for the player's achievements.

"I do not feel he will move to the likes of Kaizer Chiefs due to the financial implications. He will not accept anything less than what he was earning at Sundowns at his age," he added.
"Nowadays, money is more important than playing-time. Money has power, and it brings a will to win. Looking at the former Sundowns players who went to Amakhosi, they achieved nothing."

Mokwena speaks on Zungu's exit

Sports Brief earlier reported on Rulani Mokwena reacting to Zungu's surprise exit from the Mamelodi Sundowns this summer.

The South African tactician disclosed that he would have loved to keep the former Rangers midfielder at the club, although a decision has been made.

Zungu posted a message on his social media platforms bidding farewell to the club, ending his stay with the 'Brazilians'.
