Ahead of the final match of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Professional Football League, Enyimba forward Chijioke Mbaoma believes he will seal the golden boot ahead of his nearest challenger.

With 16 goals so far in the campaign, Mbaoma believes he should win the prestigious prize ahead of Sikiru Alimi of Remo Stars, who has 15 goals.

Over the course of the season, Alimi has continued to trail Mbaoma in the race for the Golden Boot, and now only one goal separates the pair.

Further, Enyimba and Remo are also separated by just two points on the table, and both teams seek victory in their final matches to pick up continental tickets.

Going into the final match of the campaign, Enyimba, who are third on the table with 60 points host fourth-placed Plateau United in Aba.

Second-placed Remo Stars host Katsina United in Ikenne as both sides battle for CAF competitions next season.

In a chat with Punch, Mbaoma hopes his goals can seal the ticket for the Peoples Elephants. He said:

“First of all, it is the last game of the season, and it’s like a final for us.
"Thankfully, we are playing a home game, and I am confident that I will seal it the NPFL Golden Boot.
“The target of goals I set was far more than this, but I appreciate the ones I have and I believe it will be wrapped up on Sunday (today).”

The final matches of the 2023/2024 season will be played simultaneously across all centres at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 23. Fans can also watch the matches live on StarTimes or the NPFL app.
