According to TalkSport, Musiala has been likened to footballing icon, Messi, by legendary German World Cup-winning captain, Lothar Matthaus, after he impressed for his country during the 2022 World Cup, aged just 19.

In the 5-1 win over Scotland, the Bayern Munich forward also had six touches in the opposition box, completed 100% of his 32 passes, won nine duels, and completed five take-ons, showing how good he is with the ball at his feet.

Sports Brief has highlighted three key reasons why Musiala is highly-rated to become the next global superstar after Messi, who is nearing the end of his football career.

3 reasons Musiala is heir to Messi’s throne

1. Wearing Number 10 for Germany

Musiala has been bestowed with the iconic No. 10 jersey at Euro 2024, showing how much he is revered in Germany by coach Nagelsmann and the rest of the nation.

The No. 10 jersey is more than just a number in football - the shirt is historically worn by some of the greatest footballers, including Pele, Diego Maradona, and Messi.

It is frequently linked with a team's most competent and influential player, and Musiala's adoption of this number underlines the German national team's confidence in his ability and potential, GOAL reports.

2. Musiala plays just like Messi

Musiala, who has outstanding pace, imagination, and quick feet, has received a lot of praise for his overall performances, and many people believe he will be a huge success in the future.

His playing style has been compared to Messi when the Argentine dominated football in his younger days at Barcelona under Pep Guardiola and then Luis Enrique.

Capable of playing on either flank or in a more central role, the 21-year-old's sublime dribbling skills have terrorised Bundesliga backlines since his debut in 2020.

He is also known for remarkable close control, creating carnage in opposition rearguards as he draws in defenders before evading them in tight spaces.

If Musiala adds goals to his game, the German international will be unstoppable and will comfortably take over Messi’s throne when the Argentine retires from football.

3. Musiala also idolises Messi

Musiala has previously stated that it would be 'Mission Impossible' to become the next Messi, but his performances have shown he is capable of replicating the Inter Miami star’s success.

The Bayer Munich star had initially stated that Messi, Ronaldinho, and Neymar Junior were the players he looked up to as a youngster and he had fashioned his game after these superstars.

Sports Brief previously reported that Musiala could become the next Messi, according to 1990 Ballon d'Or award winner, Lothar Matthaus.

The 21-year-old has received widespread acclaim from both fans and pundits, with UEFA's Technical Observer Panel praising his efforts so far.
