Austria international Kevin Danso has issued a public apology to Kylian Mbappe after inadvertently breaking his nose during France's Euro 2024 victory on Monday night.

Mbappe's participation in France's upcoming match against the Netherlands on Friday is uncertain, despite early medical assessments indicating that surgery will not be necessary.

The 25-year-old forward suffered the injury in a late-game collision with Danso's shoulder during their win and was subsequently taken to the hospital, per Sky Sports.

As a result, the Real Madrid star will wear a protective mask for the remainder of the tournament. France will finish their Group D matches against Poland next Tuesday.

Kevin Danso remorseful over incident

Danso expressed his regret on X via Mirror Football, saying:

"To French supporters: I am saddened by Kylian Mbappe’s injury in our match. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the field soon."

Mbappe is set to receive additional treatment at the national team's training base today, and there are no signs of a concussion.

French federation's update via official statement

The France Football Federation released a statement early Tuesday morning, confirming:

“Kylian Mbappe returns to the base camp of the French national team.”
"Kylian Mbappe suffered a broken nose during the second part of the Austria-France held this Monday in Dusseldorf. The captain of France was treated first by the medical staff and Dr Franck Le Gall, who diagnosed him with a nose fracture. Mbappe will receive treatment in the next few days, but he will not undergo surgery in the immediate future.
“A mask will be made for him so that the number 10 of the French national team can prepare for his return to the competition after a period dedicated to treatment."

Les Bleus are scheduled to face the Netherlands on Friday, June 21, before they wind up their group stage fixtures against Poland next Tuesday.

The 2018 World Cup champions secured a 1-0 slim win in their opening game, with Maximilian Wober responsible for the goal after he directed the ball into his own net.

Adrien Rabiot speaks on Mbappe's injury
