Idah Peterside has suggested that Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, should be barred from playing for the national team over his recent outburst against embattled coach, Finidi George.

The Napoli forward took exception to alleged comments made by the former Nigeria boss after the Super Eagles' poor results in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.

Osimhen then took to social media to vent his frustration.

According to Punch NG, Peterside has now called for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to take action against Osimhen by banning him from the national team if he fails to apologise.

The South African-based ex-international labelled the Napoli forward as 'irresponsible' for disrespecting the former Ajax midfielder and urged the NFF to call the 25-year-old star to order.

Finidi has since tendered his resignation as Super Eagles coach after he reportedly expressed frustration over a perceived 'lack of support' from the NFF during a meeting with Sports Minister, John Enoh.

Meanwhile, veteran Nigerian journalist, Colin Udoh, has claimed Finidi reached out to Osimhen after the Napoli ace criticised him on social media over alleged comments he had made, Vanguard reports.

The reported stated that the embattled Super Eagles coach had denied making the comments that had clearly infuriated the 25-year-old attacker and prompted his angry response.

Osimhen had taken to Instagram Live on Saturday, June 16, to slam claims from an online blog that reported Finidi had accused him of staging an injury to skip national team duties.

Sports Brief also reported that Osimhen returned to social media for the first time since the rant against Finidi but did not apologise for his actions against the ex-coach.

The Napoli striker updated his Instagram story to wish former Nigeria forward, Odion Ighalo, a happy birthday and also shared a photo with ex-rench star, Louis Saha.

Osimhen has been urged to apologise to Finidi by numerous ex-Nigeria internationals following his outburst after it was claimed he disrespected the former Ajax star.
