Legendary Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, has offered his insights on why he believes England might struggle to win the 2024 UEFA European Championship.

Neville, who made 11 appearances for the Three Lions at the Euros across three tournaments, has raised doubts about Gareth Southgate's team's ability to clinch the title this summer.

Coming close in the previous edition, where they lost to Italy on penalties at Wembley, England aims to make a stronger push in Germany, where they are considered among the top contenders alongside France and Portugal for the coveted trophy.

According to The Mirror, England's squad is recognised as the most valuable in this year's championship, boasting considerable talent across nearly every position.

However, a disappointing 1-0 loss to Iceland in their final warm-up match has cast uncertainty on their status as favourites.

Among the sceptics is Neville, who has voiced concerns about England's defence.

Neville explains why England can't win Euros

Highlighting potential vulnerabilities in their back four, the 49-year-old believes this area could be their Achilles heel during the tournament.

The former footballer-turned-pundit echoed sentiments expressed by Roy Keane and Ian Wright, underscoring widespread apprehension regarding England's defensive capabilities heading into the Euros.

"I'm struggling in my mind at this moment in time to see, unless Gareth somehow finds a way to compensate for them," Neville said, as quoted by Tribuna.
"How we go all the way with that back four unless they play the game of their life every single game, which I'm struggling to understand how it's going to happen."

Mourinho names 3 favourites to win Euro 2024

Despite Neville's doubts about England, Jose Mourinho included them among the three teams he identified as strong contenders for Euro 2024, as reported by Sports Brief.

In a recent interview with Vila do Conde, the 61-year-old was asked to predict the upcoming European Championships. Mourinho listed England, France, and Portugal as his top favourites.

However, Mourinho also acknowledged the potential for an underdog to cause an upset at the tournament.
