England had a feel of the grass for the first time in Germany as they stepped up their preparation for Euro 2024. The Three Lions will kick off their campaign against Serbia on Sunday at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

Gareth Southgate's side will look to atone for the final heartbreak on home soil in the last edition of the tournament and go a step further and win a first major tournament since 1966.

Their preparations have been far from smooth, to say the least, with Southgate facing a couple of fitness issues within his squad. Harry Maguire was dropped entirely after failing to shake off a muscle injury. The likes of Bukayo Saka, John Stones, and Luke Shaw will undergo late tests to ascertain their readiness to play on Sunday.

Of all Southgate's injury concerns, Shaw's appears to be the most critical. The Manchester United star has been out since mid-February, fighting against time to recover from a hamstring injury.

Why Luke Shaw was the only player to wear green bib

At the training session on Tuesday at the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld, the former Southampton man was the only player to wear a green bib as Southgate put his players through their paces.

SportsBible understands that Shaw wore a bib different from his teammates to identify him as a player with whom contact shouldn't be made as he is still fragile physically.

Will Luke Shaw be available for England at Euro 2024?

Southgate admitted that he was taking a gamble by including the injured player in his squad but remained optimistic he would recover in time.

"He’s progressed really well in the last couple of weeks. At the moment, we think he could have some involvement in the second group game," as quoted by GOAL.

After Serbia, England will play Denmark before wrapping up their group campaign against Slovenia.

Euro 2024 Group C Preview

Sports Brief had earlier done a Group C Preview for Euro 2024.

England will be the overwhelming favourites not only to top the group but to go all the way and win the tournament.

Fast-rising midfielder Jude Bellingham comes in to complement an already talented squad headlined by captain Harry Kane.
