Super Eagles coach Finidi George has broken his silence after Nigeria's 2-1 loss to Gernot Rohr's Benin Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying game in Ivory Coast.

Nigeria are on the brink of missing the World Cup qualification ticket for the second time in a row after losing to the Cheetahs at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Monday, June 10.

Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika scored the first goal of the game to put the Super Eagles in front, but goals from Jodel Dossou and Steve Mounie sealed all three points for Rohr's men in Ivory Coast.

According to All Nigeria Soccer, Finidi George opened up about his team's loss to Benin in a post-match interview with journalists. He assured the fans that they were not ready to give up on securing the qualification ticket.

"It's to win, but there's no special formula for that. We have to see how the players will start the new season and see how we can get the best out of the players," he said.
"Everybody must be committed; with that commitment, we'll win games. I believe we're going to win games, and if we can win games, the battle will still be there.
"We cannot throw in the towel because we have had only three points. We have to find a way to get these players back in a way for them to perform."

Finidi’s mistake against South Africa

Sports Brief earlier compiled a list of errors Nigeria’s coach, Finidi, made against South Africa.

The Nigerian team put in a largely underwhelming shift against Bafana Bafana and could only salvage a draw from the encounter.
