Chippa United goalkeeper trainer, Sean Louw, has told Nigerian international Stanley Nwabali to redeem his pledge of a Mercedes-Benz.

The goalkeeping coach has narrated how he predicted the keeper's meteoric rise shortly before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

According to Louw, Nwabali did not believe he could become one of the key members of the Nigerian national team.

The goalkeeper had only made one appearance for Nigeria in 2021, prior to his sensational performance at the continental showpiece in Ivory Coast.

In a recent chat with iDiski Times, Louw disclosed that he had encouraged Jose Peseiro to believe in the Chippa United shot-stopper.

He further claimed that Nwabali accepted the challenge of buying him a Mercedes Benz should he play in the 2023 AFCON tournament.

Louw said:

"The event even came when Stanley started the first game he played all the games in the AFCON and now he’s in the books [shortlist] of Steven Gerrard, he’s in the books of QPR, he’s in the books of many teams."

The goalkeeper trainer said he told Nwabali he would feature at AFCON but the Nigerian star was unconvinced.

"He said 'I will never play for AFCON as long as I am playing for Chippa'. I said ‘Challenge accepted’ - he said if he plays AFCON, he will buy me a Mercedes-Benz until today I am still waiting for my Mercedes Benz."

Nwabali welcomes Okoye's return

Sports Brief earlier reported that Nwabali is confident about his position in the Super Eagles starting line-up and has welcomed competition with Maduka Okoye.

The lead-up to the fixture between Nigeria and South Africa continues to dominate headlines, with players and stakeholders from both camps confident.

The next instalment of their rivalry comes just months after the pulsating match they treated fans to in the 2023 edition of the AFCON, held in Ivory Coast.
