Chelsea forward, Nicolas Jackson left Senegal fans frustrated after missing what could have been the winner as the former African champions were held at home in the World Cup qualifiers.

With the Teranga Lions leading after the break following an Ismaila Sar opener against the Democratic Republic of Congo, Jackson had the chance to double the lead, which he missed.

The miss proved costly after Fiston Mayele scored late to secure an important away draw for the Leopards in Dakar.

In a video shared on social media, the Chelsea forward was sent through from the middle and had only DR Congo goalkeeper Dimitry Bertraud to beat but his effort hit the post.

Meanwhile, he orchestrated Senegal's opener after a blistering run on the left saw him lay the ball to Sarr, who finished a brilliant move.

The draw sees Senegal drop points again in their quest to return to the FIFA World Cup in 2026, leaving them second in Group B after three matches.

The 2021 African champions were without talismanic forward Sadio Mane, who missed the game due to an injury he suffered in the King's Cup final between Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal.

Senegal will travel to Nouakchott to face neighbours Mauritania in their next game of the qualifiers on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

Mikel Obi not convinced by Jackson

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Chelsea legend, John Mikel Obi remains unconvinced by the abilities of Senegalese forward, Nicolas Jackson, despite ending the season in top form.

The former Villarreal attacker helped the Blues finish the season in sixth place, edging Newcastle United and Manchester United, who had a better start to the campaign.

Jackson scored 14 goals and delivered five assists in the Premier League in just his first season at Stamford Bridge.
