Jose Mourinho took another swipe at his former club, Tottenham Hotspur, with a hilarious joke about Harry Kane.

The 61-year-old will be back in the dugout next season after agreeing to become the new manager of Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig.

Before officially taking charge of Fenerbahce, however, Mourinho has his eyes on the upcoming Euros. He recently gave his thoughts on the showpiece by naming a player he believes will have an outstanding tournament.

According to the Portuguese tactician, Harry Kane has what it takes to shake things up in Germany and could easily win the Euro 2024 Golden Boot.

The former Tottenham striker joined Gareth Southgate’s England camp after a stellar debut season with Bayern Munich, where he scored 44 goals in 45 games.

"Kane has scored goals for Tottenham, England, and I had no doubts that he would score goals for Bayern," Mourinho said while speaking to Topps.
"Harry is a fantastic, complete player who scores goals from all over the pitch but isn’t selfish - he assists, drops deep, builds play, presses, defends."

Mourinho then hilariously referenced how he was on the verge of helping Kane end his trophy drought during the duo’s Tottenham days.

"The only thing he is missing is to win a trophy. He was my player at Tottenham, and I was going to win one with him, but I was sacked six days before the final," he joked.

When did Tottenham sack Mourinho?

According to the BBC, Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham on April 19, 2021, after 17 months in charge.

The ‘Special One’ was dismissed just days before Spurs’ game against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

Pep Guardiola’s side won the final 1-0 to claim their fourth successive EFL Cup.

This is not the first time the former Chelsea boss has openly discussed his time with the Lilywhites.

Previously, he suggested Tottenham was the only club he managed and failed to establish a connection, referring to the North Londoners as 'Mr Levy’s club'.

Mourinho’s record in his first season

Sports Brief also previously reported on Jose Mourinho’s impressive record during his first season at his previous football clubs.

The tactician has a brilliant silverware record and has won trophies in his first full season at all the clubs he previously took charge of.

Mourinho famously won the Europa League and the Carabao Cup double with a struggling Manchester United team back in 2017.
