According to the BBC, the Blues forked out an eyewatering £97.5million to re-sign the striker from Inter Milan on a five-year deal.

However, his return to the club did not quite go according to plan, with the forward struggling in front of the goal during the first season.

Subsequently, he was sent on loan to Inter Milan before reuniting with Jose Mourinho at AS Roma during the just-concluded season.

Lukaku's loan stint with the Serie A club has just ended, and he will return to Stamford Bridge to sort out his future.

Chelsea make decision on Lukaku's future

However, he seemingly does not have a future with Chelsea, at least going by the latest developments.

According to The Mirror, the west London club are not interested in another loan deal for the forward.

Instead, the 2021 Champions League winners are said to be desperate to offload the former Manchester United star permanently.

The Belgium attacker is understood to be on a wage of £325,000 per week, and Chelsea are reportedly intent to get him off their books.

Lukaku is likely to find a potential suitor, with AC Milan and Napoli said to be keen on a move. A move to Fenerbahce to reunite with Mourinho has also been mooted.

Mourinho wants Lukaku

Sports Brief also recently reported on Mourinho reportedly eyeing a move for Romelu Lukaku as his first signing for Fenerbahce.

The veteran Portuguese tactician recently landed his first managerial role since he was sacked by Roma back in January 2024.
