  • Kaizer Chiefs are desperate to find solutions to their lack of goals in the 2023-24 season as it affected their position on the league table
  • The Soweto-based team finished below the top-eight in the DStv Premiership, and could only register 25 goals in 30 games all season

Kaizer Chiefs are said to be preparing for the arrival of Nasreddine Nabi as their new coach, but they also have a huge task in bringing in a top striker ahead of next season.

The Soweto giants struggled a lot in front of goal last season, as they could only find the back of the net 25 times in 30 games in the Premier Soccer League.

This is a big concern for the team, and despite making plans for a new mentor, they need new attackers who can deliver goals when Nabi comes in.

Sports Brief takes a look at the forwards who are linked with a move to Naturena.

Six forwards linked with Chiefs this summer

1. Iqraam Rayners

The Stellenbosch FC striker was one of the best players in the DStv Premiership this season and has been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs since April.

The South African international scored 15 goals in 28 games to clinch the silver boot in the league. He was one goal shy of Tshegofatso Mabasa's 16 in the league.

Rayners could solve the Soweto giants' lack of goals next season under Nabi.

2. Lebo Mothiba

The Glamour Boys are one of the PSL teams eyeing South African striker Mothiba, who recently left Strasbourg after six years in the French Ligue 1.

Reports suggest that the Chiefs are facing competition from PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who also want to sign the former Lille star on a free transfer.

3. Andy Boyeli

The Democratic Republic of Congo striker is another player on Amakhosi's list due to his fantastic season with Power Dynamos in the Zambian League.

The Congolese striker has scored seven league goals this season and is a target for Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

4. Oswin Appollis

The South African forward's performance for Stellies this season has caught the eye of Amakhosi, who are ready to lure him to Naturena.

The Stellenbosch star scored seven goals and provided five assists in the league this season and has been a regular for Bafana Bafana.

5. Elias Mokwana

Mokwana is another forward option for Kaizer Chiefs in the transfer market, but they must beat their Soweto rivals Pirates to his signature.

The Sekhukhune United star can play as a right or left winger, an attribute that would be useful for Amakhosi.

6. Luther Singh

Singh is one of the strikers linked with Kaizer Chiefs after being released by Serbian outfit FK Cukaricki at the start of 2024.

According to a report by Soccer Laduma, the Bafana Bafana winger prefers a move to Soweto amid links with Al Ahly.

Mass exodus looms at Chiefs

Sports Brief earlier reported that Chiefs are likely to offload nine players from their team this summer after a disastrous campaign in the 2023-24 DStv Premiership.

The Soweto-based club finished outside the top eight, extending their trophyless season to nine. As such, they will not participate in next season's MTN8 competition either.
