Fenerbahce legend, Stephen Appiah, has expressed delight following the appointment of legendary Portuguese manager, Jose Mourinho, as the new coach of the Turkish club.
The ex-Chelsea manager was announced as the new coach of Fenerbahce on Sunday, June 1, 2024, and was presented to fans of the club the following day.
Appiah, who enjoyed a successful spell at the Turkish outfit between 2005 to 2008, believes Mourinho's arrival will have a huge impact on football in the country.
"I’m so excited because when it comes to Fenerbahce the fans are crazy. The character of Mourinho is going to fit so well with the club. His fame and coaching skills are going to give something huge to the Turkish Super League in general," he said, as quoted by Responsible Gambling.

Although Appiah never played under Mourinho, he believes he is the best manager for African players following his time with the likes of Didier Drogba, Michael Essien and Salomon Kalou at Chelsea.
The ex-Juventus midfielder hopes the two-time UEFA Champions League winner will transform Ghanaian defender, Alexander Djiku, into a world-class player.
"We have Djiku who has been able to win the hearts of the fans with the way he carries himself around and the way he approaches the game and I hope that with the arrival of Mourinho, he will be able to take his game to the next level," added Appiah.

Stephen Appiah advises Djiku before Fenerbahce move
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Black Stars defender, Alexander Djiku spoke on the role of Stephen Appiah in his move to Turkish giants, Fenerbache.
The 29-year-old joined the Super Lig side in the summer transfer window after ending his stay in the French Ligue 1 with Strasbourg.
Appiah is revered in Turkey following his time with Fenerbahçe between 2005 and 2008, where he helped the club win the 2006 league title.
