Kylian Mbappe has stated that Luis Enrique and Luis Campos 'saved' him from being locked out by Paris Saint-Germain during the final season of his contract, prior to joining Real Madrid.

The long-awaited deal was confirmed on Monday night, June 3, only days after the Frenchman declared he was leaving the French giants after many successful and trophy-laden seasons.

Mbappe mentioned in a social media video that he would leave the French giants at the conclusion of the season.

His announcement fuelled speculation about his next move, with Real Madrid emerging as clear favourites to sign him after a prolonged transfer saga.

After days of anticipation, the 25-year-old finally signed at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, beginning yet another exciting chapter in his football career.

Speaking for the first time since signing a five-year contract with a reported £85 million signing-on fee at Madrid, Mbappe claimed PSG had told him to his face that he would be barred from the team after he expressed his desire to leave them at the end of the season.

"I was told right to my face, and quite violently, so I was convinced I wasn't going to play. Luis Enrique [PSG's manager] and Campos [PSG's sporting director] saved me," Mbappe said via GOAL.
"That's why my ambition was different this year. It was below my standards but just playing, stringing together matches, and winning trophies was my biggest pride," he added.

Why PSG 'threatened' Mbappe

Mbappe was reportedly intimidated when he refused to sign a contract extension.

The Parisians were not joking when they excluded the France captain from their preseason team and prohibited him from the club's training facility, via Tribuna.

However, an agreeable solution was struck upon when Mbappe reportedly waived a significant loyalty incentive owed to him by the club. Fast forward to June, and Mbappe has joined Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Achraf Hakimi bids Mbappe farewell

Sports Brief also previously reported on PSG defender, Achraf Hakimi, bidding Kylian Mbappe farewell.

Following the French forward's departure, the Moroccan star expressed love for his former teammate.
