Victor Boniface's first Bundesliga season with Bayer Leverkusen was one for the books.

Despite missing nearly four months with an injury, the Nigerian played a vital role in his team's historic German league triumph.

The 23-year-old recently shared his favourite moment of the 2023/24 season, which involved his grandmother.

Boniface registered 21 goals and 10 assists in 34 matches in all competitions, per Transfermarkt. With Leverkusen, the Super Eagles star won the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal and narrowly missed out on the Europa League.

Furthermore, his team won the Bundesliga title without losing a match. They lost to Atalanta in the Europa League final but defeated Kaiserslautern 1-0 in the final of the German Cup.

Bundesliga recently sent a message to players asking their favourite moments from the 2023/24 season. Boniface said it was when he scored against Borussia Dortmund on December 3 to rescue a point for his team.

"I think it was against Dortmund at home when I scored 1-1 because my grandma was in the stands. That was so special for me."

Boniface was not a popular name in African football circles when he joined Leverkusen, but he will be remembered forever because of what he achieved in his first season.

Boniface wins Bundesliga award

Sports Brief also previously reported on Boniface scooping the Bundesliga award as the Rookie of the Season, the first time for a Leverkusen player.

The former Bodø/Glimt striker won the award ahead of Borussia Dortmund's Ian Maatsen, Hoffenheim's Maximillian Beier, and Leipzig's Xavi Simons.

Boniface on missing 2023 AFCON

Sports Brief also previously reported on Boniface discussing missing the 2023 AFCON. He said not playing at the tournament affected him deeply.

The Nigerian was ruled out with an abductor injury days before the tournament and was forced to watch his team advance to the final from home.
