Nigeria and South Africa renew their rivalry on Friday in a highly anticipated 2026 World Cup qualifier in Uyo.

The two nations met in an entertaining semi-final at the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations, and the Super Eagles had the last laugh.

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, feels Bafana Bafana will cause them many problems because they are on a revenge mission.

Nigeria and South Africa fans exchanged blows on social media before and after the match, and none would want to see their team lose the upcoming encounter.

The Super Eagles couldn't finish the job in Ivory Coast but had a great tournament. Bafana Bafana also had an impressive campaign, in which they finished third.

Musa on Nigeria vs South Africa

Musa feels their Friday opponents will have extra motivation when the referee blows the whistle.

“The game against South Africa is going to be tough because we eliminated them in the semifinal of the Africa Cup of Nations,” Musa told ESPN.
“And our Super Falcons also eliminated their women’s team from the Olympics, so they will come for revenge because they will not want us to eliminate them from the World Cup, too."

The former Leicester City forward is optimistic they will get it done in front of their fans.

"But we are playing at home so we don't have to panic, we just have to give our best and do what we know how to do best on the pitch."

The Super Eagles drew their first Group C matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and fans will be expecting a win. They are third in the group behind Rwanda and South Africa.

Broos' plans for South Africa vs Nigeria

Sports Brief earlier reported on South Africa coach, Hugo Broos, sharing his game plan for the Nigeria clash.

The Belgian said they want to upset the West African giants, but things will be different under new coach, Finidi George.
