Jose Mourinho excited Fenerbahce fans with a bold pledge on Sunday, June 2, during his unveiling at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

Mourinho, a two-time Champions League winner, signed a two-year deal with Fenerbahce months after AS Roma sacked him.

“I want to thank you for your love,” Mourinho said to fans during his unveiling, as cited on The Guardian.
“Normally a coach is loved after victories. In this case I feel that I am loved before the victories. That for me is a big responsibility that I feel.”

Mourinho makes a promise to Turkish Football

The former Inter Milan boss vowed to improve football in Turkey and promised to give his all to Fenerbahce.

He added, “I want to work in Turkish football. I want to help the Turkish league. But the most important thing for me is Fenerbahce,"
“From the moment I sign my contract, your dreams are now my dreams.”

The 61-year-old flew to Istanbul on Sunday, barely 24 hours after attending the Champions League final in Wembley, England, as a television pundit.

At Fenerbahce, he replaces Ismail Kartal, who officially left the club last Friday.

Kartal had a decent season with the club in 2023/2024, losing just once. This, however, was not enough to stop Galatasaray from winning the league, as The Lions finished three points ahead of Fenerbahce.

One of Mourinho’s prime targets for the new campaign will be to deliver a league title back to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

Can Mourinho be a success at Fenerbahce?

A proven winner, Mourinho has an impeccable track record during his first full season with the clubs he has managed.

The tactician won silverware in his first season at Chelsea, Inter Milan, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Roma.

He also succeeded at FC Porto, famously masterminding a Champions League in the 2003 2004 season.

In recent years, Mourinho’s ‘magic’ as a football manager has been questioned, with critics saying he was past his prime.

But the former Real Madrid boss proved doubters wrong in 2022 by ending AS Roma’s 14-year wait for silverware, winning the maiden Europa Conference League title.

Mourinho aims swipe at Wenger

Sports Brief also reported on the subtle swipe Jose Mourinho aimed at Arsene Wenger after Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph.

The tactician was full of praise for Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, who has now won the most UCL titles of any manager. The Italian has won five: two with AC Milan and three with Madrid.

He was informed of Wenger’s presence at the stadium while doing pitch side punditry, and he asked to see his former rival to explain his proposed offside rule.
