The Ghanaian national football team has struggled in the last few years, perfectly exemplified by their dismal 2021 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaigns.

The two group stage exits have seen the fans give up hope, but Black Stars legend, Asamoah Gyan, has asked for patience as Otto Addo's era as coach begins.

Their 2022 World Cup campaign was sandwiched between the two AFCON tournaments. Under their new manager, Addo, they won once and lost twice in Qatar.

This month, they face Mali and the Central African Republic in the 2026 FIFA qualifiers, looking to take charge of Group I, where they sit fourth with three points.

In March, they lost to Nigeria and drew with Uganda in friendly matches. Gyan said the team has young players who need time.

“For me, everything is possible. It depends on the playing body. We have very young players coming up that can make a difference," Gyan told TV3, as quoted by Ghana Soccernet. “There’s a good blend of youth and experience. It all depends on the team. We shouldn’t put pressure on them. If results don’t come, you see criticism, but this is a different generation altogether that is under rebuilding. Any win is a bonus. It is a gradual process; let them play their game."

Black Stars fans are expecting a positive start in Addo's first competitive matches since his re-appointment as coach.

Gyan advices Addo

Sports Brief earlier reported on Gyan, urging Addo to construct his team around West Ham star, Mohammed Kudus.

Gyan thinks the 23-year-old forward is Ghana's best player and is one of the few doing well in Europe in the last few seasons.

Addo previews Mali clash

Sports Brief also reported on Addo previewing Ghana's clash against Mali.

The former Borussia Dortmund man is wary of the threat the Eagles will bring when they meet. Mali reached the quarter-final of the 2023 AFCON.
