Yassine Bounou denied Cristiano Ronaldo the chance to end the season with a trophy in Saudi Arabia after his penalty heroics in the final of the King's Cup.

The Moroccan shot-stopper led Al-Hilal from a losing position to win the trophy on penalties at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium on Friday, May 31.

After Saud Abdulhamid missed from the spot, Al-Nassr had the chance to win the title through Ali Alhassan, but Bounou spectacularly saved his penalty.

Nasser Aldawsari then gave the Saudi champions the lead before Meshari Al-Nemer's penalty was saved by the Moroccan as Al-Hilal won the King's Cup.

In a video shared on social media, a devastated Ronaldo was left heartbroken as he shed tears following the disappointment after the defeat.

Sports Brief looks at the two times Ronaldo was denied by Bounou.

Morocco vs Portugal at the 2022 World Cup

On December 10, 2022, Ronaldo and his Portuguese team went into their game against the Atlas Lions as overwhelming favourites. However, that ended in agony for the 2016 European champions following the bravery of Bounou in the Morocco post.

After a first-half header from Yousef En-Nesyri gave the African the lead before the break, Ronaldo, who had started the game from the bench was introduced in the 50th minute.

The Real Madrid legend forced some good saves from Bounou with Joao Felix also coming close.

Morocco had their goalkeeper to thank after the Europeans dominated the second half but could not find the back of the net.

After the game, Ronaldo was spotted in a tearful mood following his country's quarter-final exit.

Al-Hilal vs Al-Nassr Kings Cup final

Before the final, the two most in-form teams in the Saudi Pro League have been in a series of feisty battles with Ronaldo and his Al-Nassr team getting the best of their rivals in the Arab Cup Championship, beating them in the pre-season championship but without Bounou.

Bounou had signed a few days earlier but was yet to play a game for the Blue Waves. Since he mounted the post, the Moroccan has conceded only 20 goals in the league and kept 15 clean sheets. In games against Al-Nassr with Bounou between the sticks, Al-Hilal went home unscathed.

The former Sevilla goalkeeper made it count again against a Ronaldo team after saving two crucial penalties in the finals of the King's Cup.

Bounou's penalty heroics wins Al Hilal King's Cup

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Moroccan goalkeeper, Bounou was the hero of the day as Al-Hilal completed a domestic double after beating Ronaldo's Al-Nassr in the final of the King's Cup.

The former Sevilla shot-stopper saved two penalties in the shootout as the Blue Waves went from a losing position to win the title, leaving Ronaldo and Al-Nassr heartbroken.

In a dramatic finale at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, the Saudi Pro League champions opened the scoring through Serbian forward Aleksandar Mitrovic in the seventh minute.
