Al-Nassr captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, endured yet another frustrating Lionel Messi chant during his side's Saudi Kings Cup final against Al-Hilal.

Ronaldo, who was hoping to crown his stellar individual performance with the King's Cup, saw his dreams hit a snag as the Knights of Najd lost to their local rivals on penalties.

The 39-year-old broke the goal-scoring record in a single season in the Saudi Pro League with his 35 strikes while also becoming the first footballer to finish as top scorer in four different leagues.

Despite his outstanding achievements, his Al-Nassr side fell short when it mattered the most, as nine-man Hilal managed to claw from the jaws of defeat to beat Luis Castro's men 5-4 on sudden death, per GOAL.

Former Manchester United fullback Alex Telles, defender Ali Al Hassan, and Saudi prodigy Meshari Al Nemer all missed their efforts from the spot, which proved costly for Al-Nassr.

Their inability to find a winning formula against their Riyadh neighbours means they finish the 2023–24 campaign without a major silverware.

TalkSPORT reports that CR7's disappointment at finishing the campaign trophyless left him in uncontrollable tears. He looked distraught after the penalty shootout.

Neymar appears to mock Ronaldo with 'Messi' chants

But emerging videos after the game showed Neymar appearing to join some section of Al-Hilal fans in taunting the five-time Ballon d'Or.

The fans, alongside the former PSG talisman, chanted Lionel Messi's name in the stands in a bid to rile Ronaldo up.

This is not the first time the former Real Madrid ace has been subjected to 'Messi' chants, as it has literally been the norm for most rival fans, particularly supporters of Al-Hilal.

Elated Neymar celebrates after King's Cup win

In a previous report involving Neymar, Sports Brief reported that he was elated following Al-Hilal's triumph in the Saudi King's Cup final.

After victory was sealed, the Brazilian superstar bolted from the stands to join his teammates in celebrating their momentous feat on the pitch.

It was the Brazilian's third title of the season with the Blue Waves, despite missing over 40 games due to a long-term injury layoff.
