Pitso Mosimane and Abha Club suffered relegation from the Saudi Pro League after losing their final game of the 2023/24 season.

The South African was tasked with saving the club from relegation but despite securing big wins, defeat on the final day sealed their fate.

Former Al Ahly goalkeeper, Ahmed Shobeir, recently said the former Mamelodi Sundowns made a mistake by taking the role.

Mosimane managed 25 matches in all competitions, winning 11, drawing 3, and losing 11. He also won five and lost seven in the Saudi Pro League.

Abha Club finished 16th in the table with 32 points in the 17-team league, which Al-Hilal won.

After leaving Al Ahly, the 59-year-old coached Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia's second division and Al-Wahda in the UAE. Shobeir feels Mosimane made a mistake by going to Abha.

"Despite his successes with Al Ahly, after his departure, he did not achieve a good return. It is true that he promoted Al-Ahli Jeddah to the Saudi Professional League. But in the end, this is a second tier league, and after that, he went to Al-Wahda in the Emirates, and experience that was not successful," he said via KickOff.
"Then he made a big mistake when he accepted to coach the Saudi Abha Club, which was threatened with relegation. I saw the value of Al Ahly club and the greatness of Al Ahly. That you are the best coach in Egypt."

Mosimane coached the Cairo giants between October 2020 to June 2022. He lifted two CAF Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cups, and two bronze medals at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Mosimane better than Koller?

Sports Brief also reported on former Al Ahly midfielder, Walid Salah Eldin, claiming Mosimane was a better coach than current boss, Marcel Koller.

He said the South African coach was more imaginative than the Swiss tactician, who led the club to the 2024 CAF Champions League title.
