Finidi George's recent appointment as coach of the Super Eagles has sparked a wave of palpable scepticism within Nigeria's footballing community.

Nonetheless, ahead of these pivotal fixtures, midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, has expressed confidence in the new manager's ability to lead the team.

Ndidi shows support for Finidi

Speaking in a media briefing at the unveiling of the newly remodelled Maracana stadium in Lagos, the Leicester City star expressed his unwavering confidence in Finidi.

As reported by The Nations, he stated, "Finidi is a great coach. I was with him in Morocco during the friendly matches, which was quite difficult for him because he was all alone.
Now that he has his full team of assistants, we will see the best of him with the support of all Nigerians and the football federation."

The combative midfielder’s sentiments resonate with many players who closely collaborated with Finidi during his brief stint as interim manager.

Additionally, the former Genk star highlighted his successful return to full fitness following a prolonged injury layoff that sidelined him during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Finidi is saddled with leading the Nigerian team to secure their first victory in 90 minutes since 2019 against South Africa in Uyo before travelling to Abidjan to face Benin Republic three days later in another make-or-break fixture.

Ahmed Musa voices expectations for Super Eagles

Sports Brief in another report stated Nigeria’s captain, Ahmed Musa, has stressed his expectations from the team ahead of the upcoming qualification fixtures.

The veteran forward touched on the importance of these games, stressing the need for selected players to secure victories and get the qualification campaign for the FIFA World Cup back on track.

Musa was last included in Nigeria’s team list during the AFCON in Ivory Coast.
