Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface are two of the biggest stars missing from the Canal+ African Team of the Season after a list of the continent's best 11 players was unveiled for the 2023/24 campaign.

The French publication's squad was headlined by Europa League Player of the Season, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Bundesliga champion, Edmond Tapsoba, and West Ham United winger, Mohammed Kudus.

According to Punch Nigeria, Ademola Lookman also made the list of the best 11 African players by Canal+ after a remarkable season that saw the Super Eagles winger clinch the Europa League title.

The Nigerian star scored a hat-trick in the final to help Atalanta secure their first trophy in 61 years and in doing so, ended Bayer Leverkusen’s 51-game unbeaten run in all competitions this season.

South Africa goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, is the only African-based goalie on the list, which has representatives from Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Morocco, Senegal, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, and Nigeria.

Lookman makes Serie A’s TOTW

Meanwhile, Lookman was named in the Serie A Team of the Week for Matchday 38 after bagging a goal and an assist in Atalanta’s 3-0 home win against Torino, Daily Post reports.

The Super Eagles winger, who also had four shots, two passes, and a pass completion rate of 76.7% during the match, also won the penalty that was converted by Mario Pasalic.

Lookman scored 16 goals and eight assists in all competitions for Atalanta this season.

Aubameyang wins Europa POTS award

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Aubameyang has been crowned Europa League Player of the Season for his outstanding campaign with Olympique Marseille.

The former Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona forward beat Atalanta's final hat-trick hero, Lookman, and highly-rated Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen to the top prize.
