Marcelo scores for Fluminense in Copa Libertadores

The 36-year-old rattled home from the edge of the box with a delicious left-foot half-volley to draw the defending Libertadores champions level for the second time in the game.

It was the former Brazil international's second goal of the competition as his side seeks back-to-back success in South America's version of the UEFA Champions League.

Marcelo performs the Jude Bellingham celebration

While his goal was reminiscent of one of his numerous strikes during his time with Los Blancos, he proved that he had not cut ties with the Spanish giants since his departure as he paid tribute to Jude Bellingham in his celebration.

Marcelo hit the Englishman's trademark celebration by opening his arms wide to the home crowd.

Fluminense stage comeback to maintain unbeaten run

After just seven minutes, the Rio de Janeiro club fell behind when Argentine forward, Adrian Arregui, netted the game's opener, silencing the home crowd.

Keno equalised in the 47th minute to begin a goal blitz in the opening 10 minutes after recess. Kevin Serna then followed suit, this time restoring the visitors' lead.

However, Marcelo led the fightback with a trademark volley to draw the defending Libertadores champions level for the second time in the game.

Highly rated Brazilian youngster, John Kennedy, then completed the comeback for Fluminense, sealing a hard-fought 3-2 win, per La Nacion.

The result means Fernando Diniz's side completed a year without defeat in the Copa Libertadores while topping their group in the process.

Marcelo predicts 2023/24 UCL winners

In a previous publication, Sports Brief reported on Marcelo's bold prediction of Champions League final on Saturday, June 1, where his former club will face Borussia Dortmund.

Marcelo, who boasts five titles with the Spanish giants, confidently named the eventual champions of Europe, named the goal-scorers, and even suggested their victory margin.
