Two of the greatest attributes a midfielder can possess are consistency and a great work ethic in the middle of the park.

Midfielders are some of the most utilised players on the pitch, and as a result, they tend to cover a lot of ground.

Sports Brief explores 10 Premier League players who covered the most distance in the 2023/2024 season, as cited on CIES.

10. Rodri, Manchester City

Rodri made 50 appearances for Manchester City in the 2023/24 season, missing just four league games as his side claimed a fourth successive title.

As one of the key players in Guardiola’s midfield, the Spaniard covered a staggering 402 kilometres last season.

9. Dominic Solanke, Bournemouth

Only three players outscored Dominic Solanke in the 2023/24 campaign in the Premier League.

The English striker has been one of the most consistent players in Andoni Iraola’s squad, covering 411 kilometres.

8. Antonee Robinson, Fulham

The 26-year-old USA international has made 37 appearances for Fulham this season. Playing primarily as a left back, Robinson’s runs to attack and defend have seen him clock 412 kilometres.

7. James Ward-Prowse, West Ham United

When Ward-Prowse was acquired by West Ham from Southampton in the summer of 2023, all fans agreed that The Hammers had snapped up a classy player.

Under David Moyes, the midfielder has been utilised to the maximum on the pitch, covering a distance of 413 kilometres.

6. Sander Berge, Burnley

Here is a player who was undroppable under Vincent Kompany in the 2023/2024 season.

The towering defensive midfielder was crucial for the Clarets, and his 37 league appearances have seen him cover 413 kilometres.

5. Martin Odegaard, Arsenal

Mikel Arteta’s decision to hand the captaincy to Martin Odegaard in 2022 was met with scepticism.

However, the Norway international has grown into the role, and it is almost impossible to imagine a current Arsenal team without the 25-year-old.

On the pitch, Odegaard has been one of the hardest workers for Arsenal in midfield, covering a distance of 414 kilometres in the just concluded campaign.

4. Conor Gallagher, Chelsea

When Mauricio Pochettino was Chelsea boss, Conor Gallagher was one of the Argentine's most-trusted players on the pitch.

Despite the Blues ' disappointing campaign, the midfielder rarely had a bad game. This is largely because of his work rate in midfield, as only three players have covered more distance than his 425 kilometres.

3. Declan Rice, Arsenal

Another midfielder, Declan Rice, is in the top three players who covered the most distance in the Premier League.

After arriving at Arsenal from West Ham for a whopping £105 million, the England star did not take long to get accustomed to life at the Emirates.

Like Odegaard, Rice is one of the most utilised players at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta and covered 427 kilometres last season.

2. Pascal Gross, Brighton and Hove Albion

The Germany international made 36 league appearances for Roberto de Zerbi’s side last season, scoring five goals and registering 13 assists.

Gross's contribution to the Seagulls’ midfield is criminally underrated. Since his arrival in 2017, he has been one of the club's most consistent players.

Despite being the oldest player on this list, Gross has incredible fitness levels and has covered 437 kilometres in the 2023/2024 season.

1. Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle United

The Brazilian midfielder had 15 goal contributions for Newcastle United (seven goals, eight assists) in the 2023/2024 season, per Transfermarkt.

As one of Eddie Howe’s most consistent players, Guimaraes made 37 league appearances for The Magpies. He was the last line of the back four’s defence.

He leads in distance covered in the Premier League last season after running an outrageous 439 kilometres.

Eden Hazard names Odegaard over Haaland

Sports Brief also reported on Eden Hazard’s interesting take on the best Norwegian player.

The Belgians were tasked with picking the best players from several nations, including England, France, Germany, and Norway.

Hazard went for his former teammate at Real Madrid when it came to Norway.
