However, to the surprise of many, the forward, who has been involved in 22 goals and seven assists this season according to data courtesy of Fotmob, was omitted from the team sheet by the 53-year-old.

Nonetheless, a report detailing why Finidi may have excluded Dessers from his team list has surfaced.

Why Finidi omitted Dessers from Nigeria’s team list

According to a report courtesy of media outlet Score Nigeria, the Rangers forward has been dealing with recurring injuries through the final stretch of the season.

The report also details that the forward suffered an ankle blow in the Scottish Cup final against Celtic.

Dessers earned a recall to the Super Eagles in the March international window after missing out on the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and marked his return in style with a goal against Ghana’s Black Stars.

The extent of the new injury suffered by Dessers is yet to be ascertained. The 29-year-old joins the list of players, including Nottingham Forest defender, Ola Aina, and Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen, who are also missing from the Super Eagles squad due to injuries.
