Having climbed out of the relegation zone last week, Mosimane’s side needed a win in their final game to guarantee their safety.

As noted by iDiskiTimes, they suffered a 2-1 loss to Al Hazem, a team already relegated.

Ahmed Abdoh Jaber gave Abha the lead in the second half, but the team failed to hold on.

The result meant that Mosimane’s side finished 16th on the table with 32 points, two away from safety. They also conceded 49 goals this season.

Fans react to Mosimane’s first relegation

Renowned for being a serial winner, Mosimane was recruited by the Saudi Pro League side to guarantee their safety.

Sadly, with the loss in the season's final game, he could not do that, and fans were quick to share their thoughts on the matter.

@KB_Ramasimong:

“Pitso Mosimane's last two coaching jobs have seriously tainted his CV. The one with UAE club and now this relegation with Abha in Saudi Arabia.”

@Villa_Fanie:

“After all is said and done, we do need Pitso at Naturena, and now he also needs us.”

@SmoothSoulSA:

“Pitso must come back home. The country needs him.”

@gtzonair:

“Hire Pitso Mosimane @KaizerChiefs and clean your house.”

@SEMolekwa:

“I know they are paying him good money, but coach Pitso must stop accepting work from these low-lying clubs. They will ruin his good CV.”

Mosimane confirms expiry of his contract

Sports Brief reported that Mosimane confirmed that his contract with Abha Club had officially ended after their last league game.

The Saudi Pro League side needed a win in their final fixture to secure safety but were defeated by a team already relegated this season.

Mosimane will leave the Saudi club but has not confirmed what he will do next or which side he will manage going forward.
