Mason Greenwood sent an emotional farewell message to Getafe fans on Sunday, May 26, confirming his stint with the La Liga club had come to an end.
The 22-year-old is set to leave Spain after his loan spell with the top flight side, having made 46 appearances across all competitions last season.
He was shipped to La Liga in September 2023 by his parent club, Manchester United, after the conclusion of an investigation into his behaviour.
Multiple reports suggested the Red Devils were willing to keep Greenwood at Old Trafford, but there was some resistance from other key stakeholders.

The La Liga move proved to be the right one for the striker, who re-established himself as a top player after the controversy he was subjected to since being accused of battery and causing bodily harm to another person in 2022.
According to GOAL, the England international scored 10 goals for Getafe during his loan spell.
Greenwood’s message to fans
On Sunday, the Manchester United forward took to social media to thank Getafe fans for welcoming him to the club.
"Thank you for making me feel welcomed and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my team-mates and club. A bitter-sweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you, I wish you all the best," he said, per Express Sport.
His message came after Getafe’s last game of the season, Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Mallorca.
