As the end of the month approaches, Nigerian international, Leon Balogun, faces uncertainty regarding his future with Rangers.

The defender, who rejoined the Glasgow club last summer amidst a defensive injury crisis, is facing the situation of his contract nearing its expiration, with no clear decision in sight.

Balogun, who previously played for Queens Park Rangers, initially struggled to find his footing upon his return to the Scottish Premiership.

In the first 10 games of the season, he made just one appearance. However, by November, he had secured his place in the team and played a pivotal role in the club's Scottish League Cup victory.

Despite his efforts, Balogun was sidelined again in February, making only three appearances before returning to the lineup for the Scottish Cup final against Celtic.

"First we must deal with this defeat now and try to switch off a little bit. Then we will see what the next weeks bring. I stood here two years ago and opened up about how much I love the club, and that hasn't changed, so definitely, there is an openness to stay," Balogun said, as reported by Ibrox News.

The Nigerian defender remains open to extending his stay at Ibrox, a club he has expressed deep affection for.

As per TransferMarkt, the 35-year-old has featured in 19 games, with 17 starts, and remains eager to prolong his journey with the 55-time Scottish Champions.

Balogun wants punishment for fans who abuse players online

Sports Brief also previously reported that Balogun spoke out against the abuse football players endure from angry and often unreasonable supporters.

Fulham midfielder, Alex Iwobi, was the latest to suffer from bullying on social media following Nigeria’s loss against Ivory Coast in the 2023 AFCON final.

The centre-back said that buying a ticket to watch a football game does not give fans the right to hurl abusive words at a player, whether on or off the pitch.
