Chelsea are close to signing Nigerian striker, Hafiz Umar Ibrahim, from Ojodu FC after a successful trial with the English Premier League giants.

The Ojodu FC striker became a target for European sides after his blistering performance at the Viareggio Cup earlier this year. After scoring 10 goals, he won the Best Player of the Tournament and also the Golden Boot.

Hafiz's performance at the tournament caught the eye of AC Milan, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Bodo Glimt.

The 18-year-old striker was close to signing for Norwegian side Bodo Glimt after a successful trial, but the deal broke down after the youngster opted against signing for Victor Boniface's former club.

According to a report by Soccernet, the Nigerian forward moved to London in March to undergo trials with Chelsea. The Blues gave him a chance to prove himself before signing him.

The promising Nigerian striker impressed during his trial with the London-based club, and they are ready to agree a deal with Ojodo FC for his permanent transfer.

Reports also confirmed that the Kano-born striker would not join Chelsea's first team immediately but would have a taste for first-team action by joining the Blues' sister club, Strasbourg, in France.

Hafiz is on the right path to success, and if he gets the chance at Strasbourg, he could be Chelsea's long-term striker.

Chelsea legend apologises to Cristiano Ronaldo

Sports Brief earlier reported on Chelsea legend, John Mikel Obi, apologising to Cristiano Ronaldo for a recent 'quote' that went viral across the social media space.

The legendary Nigerian midfielder reportedly said Thierry Henry, Eden Hazard, and some others were much better than Ronaldo in the Premier League.

Mikel Obi attracted criticism for an apparent claim that the Portuguese veteran was not among the top 10 greatest players in the English top flight.
