Arsenal has reportedly sent their officials to negotiate with Napoli for the services of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen amid links with Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The Super Eagles star has been linked with a move away from Napoli since last summer but signed a contract extension with the Italian club in December, which increased his release clause.

The Blues were said to be close to reaching an agreement with the Parthenopeans, as they offered €90 million alongside Romelu Lukaku and an unnamed youngster.

According to a report by IndyKaila, as per Soccernet, Arsenal has reportedly moved a step ahead of their London rivals and other suitors. They are set to offer Brazil international Gabriel Jesus plus cash for Osimhen's signature in the summer.

The Gunners are looking for every possible way to reduce Napoli's €120 million price tag on the Nigerian international.

The deal is still shaky, as Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is likely to reject the offer. The club prefers a younger striker who is similar to Osimhen in terms of goalscoring.

Jesus has recently shown that he is not a prolific goalscorer or a deadly in front of goal. He lost his starting berth to Kai Havertz in the just-concluded season.

The former Manchester City striker has also struggled with injury recently, which could be another reason for Napoli to reject Arsenal's advances.

Arsenal legend wants Osimhen

Sports Brief earlier reported on former Arsenal star, Emmanuel Petit, asking the Gunners to sign Osimhen from Napoli because they need a 30-goal striker to win the Premier League ahead of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

Petit's endorsement comes at a crucial juncture for the North London club, having narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to the Cityzens in the last two seasons.

The 1998 World Cup winner explained that the Nigerian striker has the qualities necessary to succeed in the league.
