Nigeria-born forward, Eberechi Eze, is one of the surprise inclusions in England’s provisional squad for the 2024 UEFA European Championship, to be held in Germany.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has had a phenomenal season with Crystal Palace in the Premier League, netting 11 goals and creating four assists in 27 appearances.

According to Complete Sports, Eze and his Eagles teammate, Marc Guehi, are due to be included in Gareth Southgate’s squad when the provisional 33-man team is announced today (May 21).

The Crystal Palace midfielder, who was born in London to Nigerian parents, has made one appearance for England in the past but has never represented the Three Lions at a major tournament.

Eze started his career at Arsenal but left the Gunners at the age of 13 to further his career, signing his first professional contract with Queens Park Rangers in 2016 before joining the Eagles four years later.

England drops Rashford and Henderson

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson have been dropped from England’s 33-man provisional squad for Euro 2024 by Southgate, per ESPN.

Rashford had a rough season with Manchester United, scoring seven goals in 33 league games as the Red Devils finished eighth in the Premier League.

Henderson, who played for England at both Euro 2016 and 2020, as well as the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, also could not find a spot in Southgate’s team despite his effort to remain in contention for the Euros by joining Ajax in January.

Mateta wants Eze at Euros

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Crystal Palace forward, Jean-Philippe Mateta believes Eze will make the England squad for the 2024 European Championship in Germany.

The French forward and the Nigeria-born midfielder have been in excellent form since Oliver Glasner took over as Eagles coach in mid-March, after Roy Hodgson resigned.

Despite Mateta's goal-scoring streak, he was unable to make the French team for the competition this summer, but he believes England will benefit by having Eze in their squad.
