Kaizer Chiefs legend, Tefu Mashamaite, has explained how his former club can catch up with the likes of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in the South African league.
The Glamour Boys have dropped in standard for some years now and they have been without a trophy for nine years. The 2023-24 season was also a bad one for the Soweto giants, as they are currently eighth on the DStv Premiership table with 36 points from 29 games.
Chiefs have yet to appoint a permanent manager since Molefi Ntseki was sacked late last year. Cavin Johnson has been working as an interim coach but has failed to impress in the role.
In an interview with iDiskiTimes, Mashamaite believes his former club can do better to compete with Soweto rivals Pirates and PSL champions Sundowns.

"Modernisation; the perfect example is [Mamelodi] Sundowns," he said.
"What Sundowns has done was very revolutionary even though, at the end of the day, people say they used the money to buy success. This is where the football future is heading."
The former Amakhosi captain also analysed how the Brazilians achieved success over the years.
"Also, when it comes to choosing a coach, the coach has to resonate with the culture and philosophy of where the club is trying to go. Sundowns have done that well," he added.
Mamelodi Sundowns' Treble Dreams Will Not Erase Champions League Heartache, Says Mokwena
Football"Every player that Sundowns scouts and eventually buys, they identify to say this is the player that we want. I don't think the Chiefs have invested in that.
"Football right now is an institution. You cannot just choose a coach and buy players willy-nilly, like, ''Oh, this player is playing for Chippa United. He scored 20 goals this season,'' and you buy him.
"Does he fit into the culture and the philosophy of Chiefs? If he doesn't, then don't buy him. So Chiefs haven't like invested in that."
Johnson gives excuses for Chiefs fans
Sports Brief earlier reported that Johnson gave viable excuses for supporters' failure to turn up to honour a departing legend, Itumeleng Khune.
Chiefs are currently eighth in the league standings, and fans seem to be showing their displeasure by continuing to vote with poor attendance at matches.
