Before the game against Sevilla in La Liga on Sunday, May 19, 2024, the 29-year-old was presented with the African MVP in La Liga award.

"Thank you very much for the acknowledgment. It is an honour to represent all African players in La Liga. My roots in Ghana are as deep as my love for Bilbao and the Athletic Club. I hope to be in contention for this same award next season," Williams said, as quoted by 3 News.

The Ghana international is enjoying his most prolific campaign in the Spanish league with Athletic Bilbao, netting 12 goals and delivering three assists, per Transfermarkt.

Williams also played a key role as Athletic Bilbao won their first Copa del Rey title in 40 years.

Williams reaches century of goals at Bilbao

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana forward, Inaki Williams broke into the top 20 list of goal scorers at Athletic Bilbao after marking a new milestone at the club on May 11.

The 29-year-old netted his 100th goal for the club as Los Rojiblancos clawed back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at the San Mames against Osasuna.

The red-hot forward increased his tally for the campaign to 12 goals in La Liga as Athletic Bilbao continued their pursuit of a European place finish.

Williams consoles brother after racist abuse

Sports Brief also reported that Inaki Williams reacted after his younger brother Nico Williams suffered racist abuse during the La Liga game between Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao.

Nico claims he heard 'monkey chants' from one section of the home fans and tried to get referee Juan Martinez to stop the game midway through the first-half at the Estadio Civitas Metropolitano.

However, an announcement was made to the supporters with Antoine Griezmann and Jose Maria Gimenez of Atletico Madrid imploring their fans to stop.
