German champions, Bayer Leverkusen have reacted to Victor Boniface's Bundesliga Rookie of the Year award.

The Super Eagles star won the award for the best newcomer in the German topflight league after starring in Leverkusen's title-winning campaign.

Before suffering an injury in January, Boniface won the Rookie of the Month award four times in a row.

He beat RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons, Iaan Maatsen of Borussia Dortmund and Maximilian Beier of TSG Hoffenheim to win the award, according to the Bundesliga.

"He scores. He wins Bundesliga Rookie of the Season. He is Victor Boniface," wrote Bayer Leverkusen on X, formerly Twitter, in celebration of their Nigerian star.

The former Union Saint-Gilloise star has been in fine form since joining the German club last summer, scoring 13 goals and delivering nine assists in his debut Bundesliga campaign.

His season was affected by an injury that ruled him out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. A competition the Super Eagles of Nigeria finished second in.

Boniface could end the campaign with an unprecedented treble after helping the BayArena outfit reach the finals of the DFB Pokal and Europa League.
