Percy Tau: North African Giants Advised to Sign Al Ahly Forward

Percy Tau's time at Al Ahly may be coming to an end soon.

His performances since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations have been below par, and his relationship with coach, Marcel Koller has reportedly broken down.

Egypt legend, Ahmed Hossam has urged Al Ahly's rivals, Zamalek, to secure the services of the South Africa international.

The Bafana Bafana star, who recently turned 30, has made 28 appearances for the reigning CAF Champions League champions but has found the net seven times. One of his goals have come after the 2023 AFCON.

His contract is believed to run until June next year, but the club is reportedly prepared to let the former Brighton star leave if the right offer comes along.

Hossam, popularly known as Mido, has asked his former club, Zamalek, to sign Tau.

"Zamalek must fight to include Percy Tau if he does not renew his contract with Al Ahly because he is a player that the white team needs as the right winger who plays with his left foot and is good at playing on the sides," he said via KickOff.

Tau might not be interested in a move to Zamalek because the Egyptian side is not doing well at the moment, and he might not want to miss the chance to play at the FIFA Club World Cup with Al Ahly next year, per The South African.

Since joining the club in 2021, Tau has 25 goals and 13 assists in 104 appearances for Al Ahly.

Percy Tau back at Sundowns?

Sports Brief earlier reported that Tau might return to Mamelodi Sundowns, but only under one condition.

Tau reportedly would've loved to return to the PSL champions if they won the 2024 CAF Champions League, but since they won't, it remains to be seen how the Lion of Judah proceeds. Tau and Al Ahly face Esperance in the 2024 Champions League final this weekend.

Tau's possible salary at Al Ahly

Sports Brief also reported on Tau's potential salary at Al Ahly if he signs a new deal with the 11-time Champions League winners.

When his potential new contract reportedly expires in 2028, the forward will earn a total of $5 million, or $1.2 million annually.
