Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George, could be without Napoli striker Victor Osimhen ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic.

The Nigerian striker featured in Napoli's 2-0 loss to Bologna in the Italian Serie A at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Saturday.

The Super Eagles star was on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes of play but could miss Nigeria's next qualifying games.

According to a report by All Nigeria Soccer, Osimhen missed Napoli's training on Monday ahead of their Serie A clash with Fiorentina this weekend.

Reports say the Nigerian striker missed training because of a muscle strain, and the time of his return has yet to be determined.

If the former Lille striker fails to gain fitness before the qualifiers, Finidi will have to set up his team without him, which would be a big blow for the Super Eagles.

The AFCON 2023 runners-up need all their star players fit for their next World Cup qualifying games in June, as they failed to register a win in their first two games.

Nigeria are behind South Africa and Rwanda in their qualifying group and will host the former at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, next month.

Samuel Chukwueze, Bruno Onyemaechi, and William Troost-Ekong could also miss the games due to severe injuries.

Broos warns Super Eagles ahead of qualifiers

Sports Brief earlier reported how Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos had sent a warning to Nigeria ahead of their FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The two African giants will face off against each other on June 7, with one point separating them at present as Rwanda sit on top of the Group C.

Broos believes his side’s recent friendlies against Andorra and Algeria prove his side are ready for a challenge.
