Former Nigerian international footballer, Tijani Babangida, has lost not one, but two family members in a tragic car accident.

The incident occurred last Thursday, May 9, along the Kaduna-Zaria highway, claiming the life of his younger brother, Ibrahim, a member of the illustrious 1993 FIFA U17 World Cup-winning Golden Eaglets.

Travelling with his family, including his wife Maryam, their son, and Ibrahim, his brother, along with their maid, tragedy struck as their vehicle encountered a fatal crash.

As per The Cable, occupants were swiftly transported to the hospital, including the maid, who suffered a leg fracture.

Fadil, the infant son of Babangida, succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident during surgery on Friday night, compounding the family's grief.

Maryam, meanwhile, endured severe facial injuries, resulting in the loss of an eye, and is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria.

Babangida, recognized for his tenure with the Super Eagles and his rapid pace on the field, serves as the President of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN). He was a pivotal figure in Nigeria's football history, contributing to the nation's triumph at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

Amidst the tragedy, a delegation led by prominent figures in Nigerian football, including President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, offered condolences and support to Babangida.

As reported by OgaNla, the delegation visited him at a hospital in Abuja, expressing solidarity and prayers for his and his wife's recovery,

Rainford Kalaba hospitalized after accident

Sports Brief also reported that TP Mazembe Technical Assistant, Rainford Kalaba, was hospitalised and in critical condition after a serious car accident on April 13.

The former midfielder's Mercedes reportedly collided head-on with a truck.

His partner was reportedly at the wheel at the time of the crash on Kafue Road in Zambia.
